During his first press conference on Wednesday from Escambrón Beach, Oscar López Rivera explained why he wore black the day he was officially released after more than three decades as a political prisoner in United States.
Here is the list of reasons he gave to dress this way:
1- ‘During the years that I was imprisoned I could never wear black to mourn my deceased loved ones.’
2- Today ‘the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia is being celebrated, and I want to express my solidarity with that community.’
3- ‘I want to express my solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement.’
4- ‘For my message is, and it shall be, one of love and not of hatred or fear.’
5- ‘To express my solidarity with the political prisoners in US prisons and Ana Belén Montes.’
6- ‘To express my solidarity with the University of Puerto Rico students.’
And he concluded:
Long live the struggle for a better and fairer world
