Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Hearing Will Be Held in New York
Problems while searching for travel reservations and hotels have forced the federal judge in charge of the Puerto Rico $74 billion debt case, Laura Taylor Swain, to switch venues to Manhattan.
As was reported by Bloomberg, the closure of hotels on the island, some of which the Judge would stay in during her two day hearings on the island, was the underlying cause for her previous decision to postpone the hearing until December.
However, on Friday, Taylor Swain issued an order to change the court to New York under the justification of the difficulty in finding hotels and airplane tickets for her and other lawyers who visit the island during the hearings.
The new date has been scheduled for December 20th.
The Bankruptcy hearings were frequented by dozens of lawyers and financial aids representing bondholders of the Puerto Rican debt sent from the Big Apple. They will now be able to enjoy the proximity of home during the holidays thanks to this determination.
