Around 700 employees who worked in the three Sam's Club stores which have been scheduled to close, will have have the opportunity to continue working for the company, informed their spokesperson, Daniel Morales.

The associates laboring in the doomed stores will be able to apply for vacant positions in any Walmart, parent company of the discount club, store or its subsidiaries. The deadline for application will be March 13th of this year. Morales did not specify how many vacancies were available, but revealed that the number changes constantly.After this period, any employee who did not apply will receive a compensation. However, the spokesman did not go into detail of how such compensations would be handled and what requirements would the employee need to qualify, as every case is different. As an example, he explained that employees with more than a year of working with the company as a full-time status would receive the compensation, as well as those employees that worked for more than three years as part-time.'Sam's Club will continue its commitment with the island. The employees will be considered and helped', Morales said.As for the reasons behind closing the stores located in Humacao, Barceloneta and Rexville in Bayamón, this responds to a 'strategy which we have followed to better position' the company, according to Morales.Last year, Sam's club closed a store located in the Los Colonos mall in Carolina.The company has been in Puerto Rico since 1993 and operates seven clubs in Barceloneta, Carolina, Cagues, Hatillo, Mayagüez and San Juan.
