More Taxes on Entertainment Machines (document)

The government expects to collect $405 million through a series of oversight measures and tax adjustments, including an additional $60 million obtained through a new hike on the licenses for entertainment machines, and an additional $44 million in Puerto Rico Sales and Use Tax revenues from internet sales.

This information was obtained from a letter NotiCel was able to access, which included a breakdown and was sent by Hacienda Secretary Raúl Maldonado to the chairmen of the corresponding committees in Hacienda.

'Other revenue sources correspond to the adjustments made to tobacco taxes, certain licenses, fees, and fines... We're also considering increasing and redefining the licensing cost for adult entertainment machines,' Maldonado stated in the letter.

According to the estimates, the increase in tobacco taxes would yield $52 million, while $38 million would be obtained from the management of CRIM's accounts receivable, $13 million from the increase to traffic fines, $43 million from service fees, and $5 million through the medical marijuana industry.

The proposed tax reform will bring the government an additional $44 million through a line item identified as 'tax reform technical accounts'.

Out of the government's estimated $924 million in new revenues, $519 million correspond to the extension of the tax on foreign companies, considered part of the new revenues.
