From Puerto Rico for the World: Host of Historic NASA Broadcast

A Puerto Rican graduate from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at Mayagüez served as co-host for the historic NASA transmission--broadcast through its various online platforms--on the solar eclipse.

Dr. Yaireska M. Collado Vega shared live hosting duties, broadcasting from Charleston, South Carolina.

Collado Vega graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (RUM) in 2007, and has been working with NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center since 2013 as an expert on 'space weather'.

During the broadcast, Collado Vega was wearing a RUM t-shirt while providing scientific commentary in simple terms for the audience, as well as offering advice to safely watch the eclipse.

NASA's broadcast included satellite images, as well as captures from airplanes and balloons from all over the United States, and it was followed by millions of users worldwide.
