Carrión III Turns to Faith to Defend Jaresko
The president of the Fiscal Control Board (JCF), Jose Carrión III, defended today the appointment of Natalie Jaresko as the new executive director of that entity, following criticism for its high remuneration.
Carrión participated in a meeting of the Association of General Contractors of Puerto Rico in Washington, where he said he expected the reaction of critics to the hiring of Jaresko, former Minister of Finance of Ukraine who for his new responsibilities will pocketed annually of 625,000 dollars.
Carrión recalled that Jaresko was an official of the United States Department of State, had her own investment fund and is an expert in debt restructuring and government budgets, which justifies his salary.
'I have faith that we chose the right person', Carrión said in an attempt to justify hiring Jaresko, whose signing has been criticized by public figures such as Puerto Rico's representative to the Congress in Washington, Jennifer Gonzalez, who said that the amount to be paid for their services is a 'lack of respect'.
Puerto Rico Senate President, Thomas Rivera Schatz, and Popular Democratic Party (PPD), President Hector Ferrer, are other public figures who found Jaresko's income disproportionate.
In an unusual move, the JCF reported this afternoon that press questions tomorrow at its sixth meeting should be limited to the theme of the meeting, the economic development of Puerto Rico.
