Las Bahamas, reconocido como destino vacacional de lujo, tambien ha servido como espacio de relajación y privacidad para muchas celebridades quienes decidieron instalar sus mansiones frente al mar, el mismo que se volcó con fuerza sobre el archipielago debido a los vientos del potente huracán categoría 5 Dorian.

El primer ministro de Bahamas, Hubert Minnis, describió la devastación como 'sin precedentes' y el 60 por ciento de Gran Bahama quedó sumergida por lo que las estructuras, por imponentes que fueran, se vieron afectadas por inundaciones que, en muchos casos, casi alcanzan los 10 pies de altura.

Aún así, son pocos los famosos con propiedades en el territorio que han dado un paso al frente para hablar sobre la histórica catástrofe.

En el caso del ilusionista David Copperfield, quien tiene una mansión de 40 hectáreas en Mucha Cay por la que pagó 50 millones de dólares, los daños fueron menores de acuerdo a un mensaje que colgó en sus redes sociales.

Otro estadounidense que compró una de las islas bahameñas fue el actor Johnny Depp, quien adquirió su isla privada por 3.6 millones de dólares a unos 60 kilómetros de Nassau, la capital de Bahamas. El artista no se ha pronunciado sobre la condición de sus propiedades en las islas, pero siempre ha destacado la belleza del lugar que seleccionó para escapar del tumulto y el caos, propios de la fama.

'Siempre he estado frustrado por ser demasiado conocido y por hacer películas. Un día me dije: cálmate, puedo venir aquí y desaparecer. Se puede hasta alimentar a los tiburones, pero es mejor no nadar cuando ellos están comiendo', dijo el actor hace varios años, cuando decidió adquirir la propiedad.

El cantante Lenny Kravitz, nacido en Nueva York de madre afroamericana de ascendencia bahameña, vivió en Bahamas y allí compuso los temas del disco Fly Away, por lo que ha quedado muy afectado por los estragos del huracán.

'Me duele el corazón por mis hermanos y hermanas que pasan por esta tormenta en las Bahamas. Los vientos más fuertes reportados en el Atlántico a 220 mph. Rezo para que la vida se salve y, cuando todo pase, haremos todo lo que podamos', expresó el músico en sus redes sociales.

De otro lado, el comediante Eddie Murphy tambien tiene una isla privada, Rooster Cay, muy cercana a Nassau. Aún así, tampoco ha ofrecido detalles de las condiciones en las que quedó la propiedad que obtuvo por $15 millones.

Asimismo, el actor y director de cine Tyler Perry adquirió en 2009 White Bay Cay pero tampoco ha dicho nada sobre su isla.

Otro par de actores estadounidenses que obtuvieron islas en Bahamas son Julia Roberts y Nicolas Cage, este último la isla Leaf por $3 millones para el 2006. Ninguno se ha expresado públicamente sobre el estado en que quedaron sus propiedades.

Además, la pareja de cantantes Faith Hill y Tim McGraw compraron Goat Cay por $1.2 millones, así como la familia Carter -Beyonce y Jay Z-, tambien tienen su isla valorada en $3 millones. Ambas parejas han guardado silencio sobre la devastación en las islas caribeñas.

De igual modo, la cantante colombiana Shakira tampoco se ha expresado sobre la devastación de las Bahamas donde en 2011 compró la isla Bonds Cay.

Dorian tocó tierra bahameña como huracán de categoría 5 el domingo y azotó las islas del norte del archipielago de las Bahamas durante más 30 horas. Al menos cinco personas murieron, incluidos niños, según funcionarios del gobierno, pero se espera que la cifra aumente. Ahora, como categoría 2, Dorian sigue su rumbo hacia costa este de Estados Unidos.
