NotiCel kicks off relief missions

Food and water was delivered by the NotiCel team

BARRANQUITAS - The NotiCel team visited the municipality of Barranquitas to deliver water and food to the community of Barrio Barrancas, La Gallera sector.

This is the first stop of several missions this digital media outlet has decided to carry out to areas with difficult access deep inside the island, in order to bring relief to the residents of these sectors. Thanks to sponsors like AutoGrupo and PR Supplies, NotiCel has coordinated a resource network that includes planes and trucks to help distribute the supplies that other organizations have collected, but have been unable to deliver.

On this occasion the supplies included water, milk, cookies, candy, matches, and personal hygiene items like soaps and deodorant.

'I believe that when we have plenty it is important to help others that don't have as much. It's part of [being] a community and it's a good feeling in your heart,' expressed Mark E. Curry, owner and founder of SOL Partners, who participated in the delivery of supplies, alongside the NotiCel sales team and other volunteers.

The residents said that NotiCel was the first to visit the community, even though the hurricane swept through the island over 15 days ago.

Likewise, and since there was candy among the provisions, that was the first time in weeks that many children enjoyed sweets.

'Every community will be grateful with the movement you have started, really, because we need it and there are lots of areas in Barranquitas that need to be reached as well. Just like us, they're going through situations like these, and maybe even worse. You coming all the way here is a blessing. I get goose bumps because I wasn't expecting it,' said Awilda Berríos Díaz, who ensured enough supplies reached each member of the sector.

Between the familiarity and gratitude, they invited the team to witness the damages the hurricane brought to their houses, such as eroded foundations and torn posts. In an effort to repay the gesture, they also treated all employees to some hot chocolate.

Curry announced that there is still merchandise left to distribute, located on six planes in Humacao, Culebra, Vieques, and Aguadilla. The supplies were donated by San Juan businesspeople. The deliveries will be carried out in the next few days by volunteers from NotiCel, SOL Partners and other groups.
